Several things happened to me over the past couple of weeks that made me wonder if the devil was seriously on my tail. I had to get dental work done. (Who doesn't hate that?) My shower began to drip and ultimately water from next door's shower backed up into my drain. My bank card got compromised. I was waiting on my new ID card which I would need for an upcoming event. I reached a point this morning at which I was about to ask, "Next, Lord?" But as I took a moment to think, I realized the amazing miracle in each situation.
First, in the case of the dental visit, I had to find a new one because my previous one was no longer in practice. So how to find the new office! Ever tried to get precise directions from the perspective of having no vision? "Over there on that corner." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??? Far easier if someone can go over the route with you or if you can get a ride there. It so happened that a good friend lived really close to one office and said this lady was really skilled. One problem solved! And my friend was right--no complications and I only took one painkiller.
Secondly, I discovered last Thursday that someone had skimmed my card number and tried to use it somewhere nearly 400 miles from where I reside! Thugs! But then, when my anger simmered down, I couldn't believe God's protection. I found out the misdeed because my friends from out of town came to Sacramento for an appointment but got the date wrong. Not only that, but they couldn't get help from their relatives, and she can't drive in the dark. He's visually impaired also and therefore can't drive. So they asked if they could stay the night. We went out to dinner, and I tried to use the card. It was declined. So as a result of my friends getting the date wrong, etc., I discovered the violation far sooner than I might have if they hadn’t stayed the night. Then there might have a ton of charges and one heck of a claims nightmare! As it stands now, I’m only inconvenienced while awaiting a replacement. Furthermore, I realized that if I was to stand behind what I'd previously written, I couldn't help but pray for the perpetrators! The Long Road to Forgiveness
Finally, as I mentioned, my shower has been dripping incessantly, and about the same time my friends stayed over, my drain started to back up with water from the neighbor’s shower! I was so frustrated Monday night that I didn’t even bother to check the level, and someone couldn’t come out until Tuesday. When I did check it this morning, the water was at least two-thirds of the way to the edge of the tub! I grabbed the first container I could find and started bailing and pouring into the toilet. After about ten bucketsful, I ran out of time. I decided to slightly fill the bucket so it wouldn’t float away from the drain in hopes that it would catch the drip until the plumber could arrive. When I turned the water off, the drip stopped! My cynical side said I must have been doing something wrong all this time. Maybe it was my fault that it had been dripping. But then on this kind of faucet, you can only turn it so far. I couldn’t have turned it off any more tightly. I felt the Lord was protecting me from an all-out flood as I left for work! I’m not a plumber, so perhaps there’s a technical explanation for what happened, but this was as good an explanation as any.
As I write this final paragraph, it’s now the 29th. When I picked up the mail, my ID card was there! I’m not through with dental work, I’m still awaiting that other replacement card (which I expect soon), and yes, the moment I turned the water on again, it began to drip. Thank God they at least were able to clear the drain. Through it all, I’ve seen God’s protection and the fulfillment of His promise.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
1. And for those of you who know my favorite song, it’s been a constant reminder of these kinds of promises in spite of any criticism that may arise of my being a heretic. YouTube - Nickelback - Never Gonna Be Alone
